I think a lot of us know about 1918/19 now. And if you go back further you'll find the same with the Black Death which allegedly killed something like 30% of Europe's population. Likely the best part of it, taken out of the gene pool. Plagues are like that...

Also I too was a child in 1976. Swine Flu seems to have slipped by us down here in NZ. I don't remember a bit of it. And I was old enough to remember it.
