It sucked during the Rev whar, Civil whar, Dustbowl, Depression, WWi, WWii, WWiii (we're past that into #4) etc. So other than the 1950s when there was a patina of normalcy and reward for what was then the biggest Black Magicks Sacrifice where everyone seemed calm because they were on psyche drugs over what just happened, there has never been a time when it was 'great'.
